With a brand-new model for brand marketing and film finance, we opened our doors in 2016 with our first client HP Inc and helped them navigate their first feature film partnership under their newly formed content division HP Studios. 

HP has a great relationship with director Nandita Das and shares her values around celebrating diversity and the power of the written word.  Her feature film Manto is a story about inclusion, acceptance and friendship and speaks to HP’s leadership in diversity, inclusion and equality.

Manto is the true story of Saadat Hasan Manto, an Indo-Pakistani storyteller. He was a writer, playwright and author, and is considered one of the greatest writers of short stories in South Asian history.   This film focuses on seven years of Manto’s life, chronicling the partition of India in 1947 creating the largest mass migration in history, displacing millions.

 Supported by AAA, HP Studios co-produced Manto with Viacom 18, FIlmstoc and Nandita Das Initiatives LLP. 

In May 2017, their feature film Manto directed by Nandita Das was announced –

#Manto was the number 1 hashtag in India.

In May 2018, Manto premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film festival in official selection as part of Un Certain Regard – during the 10 days of Cannes it generated 150 million hashtag impressions.  It was critically acclaimed and went on to Toronto (TIFF), London, Busan, Singapore, Melbourne and Sydney film festivals.  It released in India in September 2018 and is now on Netflix worldwide.
